Nicole Mi has served on the LACERA Board of Investments for three years, bringing 12 years of County service as a licensed Civil and Traffic Engineer, along with an MBA from UCLA Anderson. As Vice Chair, she has demonstrated strong fiduciary leadership and diligent oversight — helping grow the fund from $76 billion to $92 billion after paying retiree benefits.
As a LACERA Trustee since January 2024, Nicole chairs the Credit Committee and the Joint Organization Governance Committee (JOGC), and serves as Vice Chair of the Audit Committee. Under her board leadership, LACERA's total fund grew by $16 billion — and the funding ratio improved from 79% to 82%, strengthening the long-term security of every member's retirement. She also led the board's successful selection of a new Chief Executive Officer and facilitated governance continuity during a critical board transition.
Nicole immigrated to the United States at age 19, not yet speaking English. She built her career through education and determination — earning her Professional Engineer and Traffic Engineer licenses, an Executive MBA from UCLA Anderson, and a Certified Board Director credential from the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD). She has pursued advanced trustee training at Harvard Business School and Wharton, and is recognized by the American Society of Civil Engineers as an Outstanding Civil Engineer.
LACERA manages $95 billion on behalf of more than 200,000 active and retired Los Angeles County employees. Nicole has seen firsthand what strong fiduciary leadership looks like — and what it demands. She is running to continue fighting for every member who depends on LACERA for their retirement security.
Nicole focuses on the long-term strength and sustainability of the pension fund through consistent growth, sound governance, and forward-looking investment oversight. As Chair of the Credit Committee and JOGC, the credit portfolio she oversees beat its one-year benchmark — returning 11.4% versus the 6.8% benchmark.
Nicole is committed to protect our retirement security through responsible investing, disciplined risk management, and careful stewardship of members' hard-earned pension funds. She helped grow the fund from $76 billion to $92 billion and improved the funding ratio from 79% to 82% — strengthening long-term benefit security for all 200,000 members.

Under Nicole's board leadership, LACERA's total fund grew by $16 billion net of benefit payments — and the funding ratio climbed from 79% to 82%, strengthening long-term member benefit security. She also led the board's successful appointment of a new CEO and guided governance continuity during a critical board transition.
Nicole holds an Executive MBA from UCLA Anderson, advanced training from Wharton (Investment Strategies & Portfolio Management) and Harvard Business School (Audit Committee in a New Era of Governance), and a Certified Board Director credential from NACD — paired with active Professional Engineer and Traffic Engineer licenses and over a decade managing public infrastructure programs.
As Chair of the Credit Committee and the Joint Organization Governance Committee, and Vice Chair of the Audit Committee, Nicole provides hands-on fiduciary oversight of a $95 billion institution — reviewing every board package, raising substantive questions, and holding management accountable on behalf of the members.
Nicole came to this country at 19, not yet speaking English. She has built her entire career in public service, and she carries a deep, personal understanding of what it means to work hard and earn a secure retirement into every decision she makes for LACERA's 200,000 members.
